While the following story happened outside the country, it still has some details that are worth discussing regardless of where it occurred. National boundaries do not prevent work accidents from happening, nor will they save someone from a fatal work accident.

This particular case happened in Alberta, Canada, where a 63-year-old man was killed on a hay farm. Emergency responders arrived at the scene at 8:07 a.m. and they said that the preliminary evidence indicates that the 63-year-old died while operating a piece of equipment. Little else is being discussed at this time, and an investigation is underway into the exact cause of the death.

Work-related circumstances causing a death are extremely serious, and the loved ones of the victim will feel the pain and suffering for a long time. Sometimes it is determined that negligent circumstances contributed to a fatal work accident. These circumstances could be due to incomplete or inadequate training; they could be due to a malfunctioning piece of equipment; or they could occur because of a company’s general incompetence or negligence in following safety standards.

Work-related deaths should never happen, but the reality is there’s no silver bullet to the problem. Sometimes people will suffer because of dangerous work environments. It is what we do in response to these things that matters.

Workers’ compensation goes a long way towards helping the victims and their loved ones in the wake of a workplace accident.
